Soccer Training at Home – Partner Drills – Passing and First Touch

Welcome to Part 10 of our Soccer Training at Home series! In this session, we will focus on one of the most crucial skills in soccer: passing and receiving. To help us with this, athletes Camryn Walker and Sophie Quastel will guide you through a series of drills designed to enhance your passing accuracy and receiving technique. So, without further ado, let’s dive in and elevate your game!

Passing and Receiving Drills

  1. Two Touch Inside the Box To kick things off, we will begin with the “Two Touch Inside the Box” drill. In this exercise, you will practice controlling the ball within a confined space. Specifically, focus on using your first touch to control the ball and your second touch to pass it accurately. Importantly, this drill is essential for developing quick decision-making skills as well as precision in your passing game.
  2. Inside Push Touch (Right) Next, let’s transition smoothly to the “Inside Push Touch (Right).” In this drill, you will push the ball to the right using the inside of your foot. As you perform this exercise, pay careful attention to your body positioning. Additionally, be sure to follow through with your pass. Consequently, this technique will significantly improve your ball control and passing skills, ultimately enhancing your overall performance on the field.
  3. Inside Touch Across the Body (Right) After mastering the right push, we will then practice the “Inside Touch Across the Body (Right).” Here, you will touch the ball across your body with the inside of your right foot. This movement not only enhances your control but also prepares you for making quick passes under pressure. Therefore, as you practice, remember to stay relaxed and focused.
  4. Inside Push Touch (Left) Now, let’s switch gears and focus on the “Inside Push Touch (Left).” Similarly to the right side, you will push the ball to the left using the inside of your foot. As you execute this drill, concentrate on maintaining balance and control. Consequently, this practice will help you develop a well-rounded skill set and increase your versatility on the field.
  5. Inside Touch Across the Body (Left) Following that, we’ll move on to the “Inside Touch Across the Body (Left).” In this drill, you will touch the ball across your body using the inside of your left foot. This exercise not only reinforces the technique you practiced on the right side but also promotes ambidexterity and fluidity in your passing game. Remember, practice makes perfect, so take your time!
  6. Aerial Ball Control with Feet Finally, we will conclude with the “Aerial Ball Control with Feet” drill. In this exercise, you will focus on receiving the ball from the air and controlling it with your feet. This skill is vital for maintaining possession during games, especially when dealing with high passes. As you practice, remember to stay light on your feet and use your body to cushion the ball effectively.
